The Canary Islands Travel Guide

The Canary Islands (also known as the Canaries) is a group of islands located off the coast of Morocco, although despite the location it is considered part of Spain.  The Canaries are best known for popular holiday destinations such as Tenerife, Gran Canaria and Lanzarote although in total there are 10 separate islands that make up the archipelago (group of islands).

Tenerife

Tenerife, the largest island in the Canaries is the most popular tourist destination within the cluster, boasting nearly 5 Million tourists per year. Many of the tourists visit due to the vast amount of nightclubs and bars, and has been dubbed a clubbers paradise by many.

Away from the nightclubs and bars there are plenty of activities to keep you entertained, from water sports to tropical gardens and not to mention the great views including 3rd largest volcano in the world.  Tenerife also has an abundance of great beaches which give a great way to relax after one of the many activates available to you.

With so many activates and great weather Tenerife holidays are definitely for everyone.

Gran Canaria

Gran Canaria is another popular island for tourists; many come to witness the diverse weather conditions, with each region having a slightly different climate. Despite this the majority of the island promises all year round warm and dry weather – but it can be a bit of a shock seeing snow on the mountains while spending time on the famous sand dunes.

Like Tenerife there are many great beaches to visit while spending your holidays in Gran Canaria, with each offering a great range of activities – from water sports to scuba diving. If beach holidays are not your thing you can always venture into the mountains, taking one of the many trails – just remember to wrap up as it can be cold in the winter months.

Other islands not featured here yet include Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and La Palma so watch out for future updates to this guide to Canary Islands holidays.
